Project Overview

This education project focuses on renovating the Agriculture Room and the Home Science Room at Madukotanarawa School. The school is located in the Badalkumbura Education Zone in the Monaragala District. The project will directly benefit around 250 students and 30 teachers by improving learning facilities.

Madukotanarawa School once had more than 800 students. Over time, student numbers and teacher retention declined due to internal issues, weak leadership, and a loss of morale and reputation. A new principal had been appointed, and he appears to be committed to redeveloping the school. However, support was needed to rebuild the confidence of students, teachers and parents.

After visiting the school, the committee members of the Trust and the Brotherhood for Humanity team identified the Agriculture Room and the Home Science Room as the best starting points for redevelopment. The project included roof repairs, installation of doors and windows, electrical work, and wall and floor finishing in the Agriculture Room. It also included upgrading the electrical system, tiling the countertops, painting the walls, and cupboards in the Home Science Room. Additionally, the school landscape was enhanced.

These improvements created a safe and motivating learning environment. They will also support the long term revival of the school by restoring confidence, morale, and pride within the school community.
