This patient was diagnosed with a complex congenital cardiac condition of Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, which required a specialized surgical procedure involving unifocalisation with an RV to PA conduit. She had previously undergone two cardiac surgeries, one at Madras Medical Mission in India at the age of three, and another at Lady Ridgeway Hospital in 2011. In 2023, considering the complexity of her condition, along with the prolonged waiting periods for cardiac surgery and the limited resources within the local healthcare system during the economic crisis, Dr. Duminda Samarasinghe recommended that she seek further treatment at MIOT Hospital, which specializes in advanced cardiac procedures.
At that time, her family was facing significant financial difficulties in meeting the cost of the required surgery. Her husband was unable to bear the substantial expenses associated with overseas medical treatment. In response to an appeal for assistance, the Trust extended its support to facilitate this critical surgery. This intervention played an important role in enabling timely medical care and contributed towards safeguarding her health and wellbeing.
