The 2024 International White Cane Day celebration was successfully organized by the Colombo District Branch of the Sri Lanka National Federation of the Visually Handicapped. While the global observance is annually marked on October 15, this commemorative event was held on October 25, 2024, at the Piliyandala Town Hall.
Recognizing the importance of mobility and independence for the visually impaired community, the Trust extended its support by providing the necessary financial and material resources to make the event a reality. In addition, BFH contributed towards the successful implementation of the programme, further strengthening the overall impact of the initiative.
The event brought together 105 low-income visually impaired members along with 35 their assistants, creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all participants. These combined efforts ensured that attendees were able to take part in the day’s activities with comfort, dignity, and a strong sense of community. As part of the initiative, all participants were presented with white canes and gift vouchers, supporting their mobility and daily needs.
