Bogahapalassa Kanitu Vidyalaya is a rural school in Bogapalassa Village, Badalkumbura Educational division, Monaragala District in Uva province. It’s a school of 75 students and classes up to Ordinary Level. The Principal of Bogahapalessa School, Mr Thilakaratne (2023), had met Mr Deva Rodrigo, Chairman of the Trust when he was on tour in the Ampara region. After noticing the discipline and attentiveness of the children, the dedication of teachers to their tasks, and a lecture given by the principal and another male teacher to the students about the history of the site and its cultural relevance, the team, including Mr Deva Rodrigo, had been impressed.
Upon enquiry whether they could assist the school in any way to overcome a pressing issue of the school, the principal had informed the need to separate an 80’ X 20’ hall with partition walls to make five classrooms. Also, the principal invited them to visit the school.
Mr and Mrs Deva Rodrigo, Prof. Himan Punchihewa, and a team from Brotherhood for Humanity were joined for the initial visit to the school on the 2nd of August in 2023 and handed over five office chairs to Bogahapalassa Kanitu Vidyalaya. On that day, they requested funds to construct walls to divide the hall into five classrooms, place Greenboards on each such wall, Supply and installation of five metal doors, fans, and lights, paving with cement blocks at the entrance of the classrooms 10’ width, painting the entire building, donate books for the library and equipment for science laboratory and the trust assisted in the tasks.
