Project Overview

MAS Holdings partnered with the Trust to construct a new aesthetics room and a library at Kachchigala Vidyalaya in Embilipitiya, a remote school with 189 students. Representatives of a student organization (Sahodarathvaye Manudama) of the University of Moratuwa, a team from MAS Active Pvt. Ltd., Embilipitiya and the Trust collaborated in designing and executing the project. In addition, the Trust provided books and furniture for the facility. The building was declared open on 27th October 2022 with a lavish ceremony organized by the teachers, students and the parents. The Trust gifted schoolbags and exercise books to all the children in the school and launched a student savings scheme in collaboration with the National Savings Bank with an equal initial deposit from both parties.
The head prefect of the school and a year three pupil in their speeches referred to the donation ‘as a dream come true’. The scale of the ceremony reflected the incalculable value of this project and extent to which it has boosted the morale, enthusiasm and commitment of the staff, parents and children.

Chairman MAS Group and member of the advisory committee of the Trust, Deshamanya Mahesh Amalean commented; “What I like about the project is that we contributed to the children’s academic advancement through the library and to developing their cultural talent through the music room, both of which are important for the holistic development of a child.
The TVR Trust together with the resources from the Moratuwa University and that of MAS came together to fund, design and deliver the project. It’s amazing what can be achieved, even if it’s a small project, when one brings together the collective resources of individuals and institutions.
It is also gratifying to be able to make a meaningful difference to the lives of people, especially those of limited means.
